Spring is here and as always, I feel behind. In prior years I have been more on top of it and got a large
variety of seeds in their trays in January. A couple of years I even set up a temporary greenhouse which
worked out amazingly. By March I had over a hundred seedlings like china asters, cosmos, foxgloves and
gorgeous heirloom snapdragons. Also, imagine the money I saved from not going crazy at the local
nursery on annuals and perennials! Another reason why I love starting from seed is the variety. The
colors and and quality you can purchase online and catalog are endless. Don’t forget your small, family
run seed companies. Aside from Floret as a source of flower seeds and growing tips, they have a great
list of domestic sources to order from.
This year I got a late start to cleaning up the winter debris and pruning, but it isn’t stopping me from
giving it a go and I put seeds from Eden Brother’s in trays straight out to my patio in a sunny spot. I figure
they have more of a fighting chance in a tray rather than straight in the ground and I can keep a close
eye on them. The fun with gardening is, give it a go! If it doesn’t work, you learn from it. If it works, you
have so much beauty!
Here are a few essentials I feel that can be helpful in getting your season started. Always be prepared.
With the right tools and accessories you can focus on getting the job done. And don’t forget sun
protection!
